// After being in Cambodia for 10 days, I was done. I had been on the road for about 3 months now and I didn't feel good. Like, you know that passion for traveling and adventures? That you just can't wait to see a new place and everything that you see is absolutely wonderful? In the past weeks in Cambodia I lost that feeling. Everything I did felt forced and honestly, after Vietnam I was having such a hard time enjoying my time in Cambdia. I did have fun and I still met amazing people there too, but I just wasn't as happy as I could've been. So what I needed was someone to remind me that this is my trip and I can do whatever I fucking want and if I'm not happy, I should do something about it. So I did and I decided to change the country and join some friends that I met in Vietnam and to put it simply, I took a little vacation from my vacation. After making the decision I got that travel excitement back again and I love this feeling! I'll definitely return to Cambodia when the time is right, but for me it just wasn't now. New adventures await!

My decision to leave Cambodia

Paradise islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem
// After a few nights in the party town of Sihanoukville, it was time to make my way on to the small island of Koh Rong. No cars, no streets and the wifi only works when it wants to.
Sihanoukville rannat // Beaches of Sihanoukville
Lautalla Koh Rongille. // On the ferry to the island of Koh Rong.
Tervetuloa paratiisiin! Valkoisia hiekkarantoja, katu ilman katukivetyksiä ja kristallinkirkasta vettä. Täällä unohdettiin kengät huoneeseen..
// Welcome to paradise! White beaches, a street with nothkng but sand to walk on and crystal clear water. Here I forgot my shoes in my room..
// Time to leave Koh Rong and head over to its little sibling, Koh Rong Samloem. This island had only a few places to sleep at, few villages and zero wifi, not to mention any other luxuries. A true cast away island and a get-away from the rest of the world!
Täällä unohdin itseni rannalle ja olin täysin tietämätön päivämäärästä, viikonpäivästä ja kellonajasta. Vain aurinkoa, riippukeinuja ja hyvää seuraa!
// Here I forgot myself on the beach and was completely unaware of the day, the date or the time. Only sunshine, hammocks and good company!

New year, new country - Welcome to Cambodia
// It was extremely difficult for me to leave Vietnam after 6 amazing weeks. I enjoyed every moment and I can honestly say I left my heart in Vietnam. Luckily it's comforting to know that I can always go back. However I had to let go of Vietnam and continue towards new countries and new adventures. The first stop in Cambodia was the country's capital, Phnom Penh.
// Phnom Penh wasn't that speacial. Big, dusty and busy like all the other Asian cities. While in Phnom Penh, I visited the Killing Fields and the Genocide Museum; S21 prison.
// It was very eerie to walk through the Killing Fields and listen to all the horrific happenings that occurred here only just so recently. Every fourth Cambodian was murdered in places like these. The tree here was called the Killing tree, where babies where murdered by holding them by their legs and throwing them against the tree..
Killing Fieldseiltä kaivetut luut on koottu yhteishautaan.
// The bones dug up from the Killing Fields are gathered in a shared grave.
// The S21 prison was also creepy and functions today as the Genocide Museum. 7 people made it out alive from this prison..
After the depressing tour in Phnom Penh, it was time to move on back to the beaches!

Happy New Year from Ho Chi Minh City
// After a small mountain city it was time to move on to a "little" bigger city. Ho Chi Minh City, aka Saigon was quite a buzzling city. We had a rooftop terrace in our hostel and we spent several moments up there looking down at the never ending stream of cars, motorbikes and people and enjoyed gorgeous sunsets.
Kaupungissa en siellä ollessani tehnyt turistijuttuja oikeastaan ollenkaan, vaan otin kaupungin vastaan sellaisena kun se on. Juuri tällaisina hetkinä kävelet kadulla keskellä päivää ja KFC pikaruokaravintolan edessä on käynnissä kukkotappelu. Näin voi käydä vaan Aasiassa...
// While in Saigon, I didn't hardly do any turisty stuff, instead I took the city in as it is and enjoyed my time there. Exactly moments like these will bring before you weird things, such as a cock fight in front of KFC fast food restaurant in the middle of the day. Only in Asia...
Saavuimme Saigoniin muutamaa päivää ennen uutta vuotta, joten aikaa oli hyvin tutustua myös kaupungin yöelämään. Jättijuomajenga on aina kiva peli!
// We arrived in Saigon a few days before New Year's Eve, so we had plenty of time to explore the night life in the city. Giant drinking jenga is always a good game!
// This time one of the blocks said to "change an article of clothing with another player". Luckily me and this Filipino guy had matching shirts and ended up changing them for the duration of the game...
Uusi vuosi, uudet kujeet! Vuosi 2016 otettiin vastaan hostellimme kattoterassilla, josta oli hyvät näkymät yli kaupungin. Ilotulitukset näkyivät myös hyvin korkealta terassilta pilvenpiirtäjien takaa. Meidän uutta vuottahan ei isosti juhlita Aasiassa, mutta kyllä me aikamoiset bileet saatiin aikaseksi.. Saa nähdä mitä uusi vuosi tuo tullessaan!
// New year, new adventures! The year 2016 changed on the rooftop terrace of our hostel. We had good views over the skyscrapers and saw the fireworks in the distance. Our new year is not that widely celebrated in Asia, but there was a good party anyway.. We'll see what this year will bring with it!

Merry Christmas from Dalat
// It was finally time to leave Hoi An and make our way towards the mountain city of Dalat for Christmas. We had a bigger travel group in Vietnam for quite some time already and now we split up in two groups, half of us spending Christmas in Ho Chi Minh City and half in Dalat. I still had people I knew with me so I had a good feeling knowing I'd have friends around me during Christmas.
// Upon our arrival into our hostel in Dalat we were welcomed with open arms, hugs and kisses and taken towards the dining table. It only took a minute and the table was full on delicious food and the owner, Mama, was yelling from the kitchen "eat, eat, yum, yum"! Dalat Family Hostel was owned by a family. Everyone working here was either sisters or cousins and the heart of the hostel was of course Mama, who was a star in the kitchen and on the dancefloor.
// Dalat was a cute city that was much bigger than I expected. Here are fresh fruit and flowers at a local market.
Saavuimme Dalatiin siis jouluaaton aamuna. Eikä joulua ilman tonttulakkia!
// We arrived in Dalat on the morning of Christmas Eve. And there is no Christmas without a Christmas hat!
// We all decorated the hostel with a Christmas tree and balloons. Everyone also helped with cooking and setting up the table. The hostel really was like a small family and every night was of course finishes with a family dinner.
Ei joulua ilman kuusta, poroa tai joulukakkua...
// No Christmas without a Christmas tree, a reindeer or Christmas cake...
...eikä tietenkään ilman joulupukkia!
// ...and of course not without the Santa!
Jouluaattona ja joulupäivänä teemat olivat hyvin samat. Syötiin hyvin ja sitten juhlittiin. Jouluja oli tietenkin kaksi, sillä osa (esim me pohjolaiset) juhli joulua aattona ja osa joulupäivänä. Tässä joulupäivän bileporukka!
// On Christmas Eve and Day the themes were very much the same. We ate until we ate too much and then we partied. We of course had two Christmasses because some of us (us Nordics, for example) celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve and some celebrate during Christmas Day. Here is the party crew from Christmas Day!
Tietenkin Vietnamin iltoihin kuuluu myös yksi sähkökatkos, täydellisesti juuri viimeisten auringonsäteiden vaipuessa talojen taakse.
// Of course it is part of the nights in Vietnam to have a blackout. This time it happened perfectly right before the final rays of the sun set behind the buildings.
Jouluhulinoiden jälkeen oli aika taas seikkailla! Vietimme koko päivän kanjonissa, jossa abseilattiin eli tultiin kanjonin seinämää ja/tai vesiputousta pitkin alas köyden avulla. Ihan mahtavia hetkiä tällaiselle adrenaliiniaddiktille!
// After the Christmas parties it was time for another adventure! We spent the day canyoning, where we were abseiling waterfalls. Amazing moments for a adrenaline addict like myself!
Toiseksi viimeinen ilta ja perhepotretti!
// Second to last night and a family portrait!
Mama!
Adopting family members since 2013, with Suzie!
Seikkailupäivä Elefanttiputouksilla.
// Another adventure day at the Elephant Falls.
Joutsenpolkuveneellä vuoristojärvessä. // On a swan paddle boat in a mountain lake.
Apinanpoikanen! // A baby monkey!
Viimeinen ilta ja juomajengan yhteydessä pakollinen yhteisselfie! Seuraava pysäkki, Ho Chi Minh City eli Saigon!
// Last night and the mandatory group selfie while playing drinking jenga! Next stop, Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon!
